General  Information

The International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) is an Alberta (AB) government service issuing certificates by comparing degrees from other countries to Canadian educational standards. This organization has been designated by the Canadian Government to provide Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for Express Entry. ECA Express Entry validity - 5 years.

An ECA cannot be issued if the credentials cannot be authenticated and/or are from an institution/program which is not recognized. If there are issues, IQAS officials will advise You.

The applicant bears responsibility for applying in a timely manner to meet the necessary deadlines.

Please note that there is no RUSH or EXPEDITED services for credential evaluation.

How does the IQAS process work?

The application can be submitted either online or by post. Once received IQAS will email and confirm the delivery. It does take several weeks for IQAS to confirm the delivery.

You will be asked to request your official transcripts from your school. Once received, IQAS will confirm it as well.

The actual processing will start after all the necessary documents, transcripts, and payment information is received. Processing time – 15 weeks.

Once the assessment is completed, the applicant is expected to receive an electronic copy of the assessment, and a hard copy by mail.

The applicant will need to submit the assessment to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada with the file number.

Eligible Applicants:

  • plan to immigrate to Canada

  • require an ECA for Canadian immigration purposes, and have a diploma or degree, or a technical diploma or degree from an institution outside of Canada

If you studied and obtained your degree, diploma, a certificate in Canada, you do not need to get an ECA for that specific credential.

An ECA issued by IQAS does not mean that the obtained credentials are automatically recognized for licensure in Canada.

It does not as well guarantee a job or successful immigration application.
